An exciting week ahead!

So after looking back at my last post, I'd definitely like to apologize for the horrendous amount of photos of me just posing. I was looking for a distraction and I most definitely found it. Also, this is what I ended up wearing to that Anything But Clothes party..

post-it dress!

I'm home in Edinburgh this weekend and one step closer to Paris (don't worry, Paris chat will be over soon!). It's been so lovely to get back from the every day stresses of uni life and be able to just come home and see the family and Tom.

This weekend has been pretty good, I basically got off the train on Friday and straight into the pub which is shocking, but was fun. We were out for a few drinks with friends for Tom's birthday. Being an all time lover of real ale, we ended up at an ultimate old mans pub at the complete opposite end of town from the flat just so we could make it to a beer festival. Was nice to see the people who came out, and of course Tom!

Saturday was my assigned day to see my good friends from home to sort of pre celebrate my birthday as I'm not doing anything big for my birthday with anyone but Tom. I also went birthday present/jewellery hunting with the folks and chose out the most beautiful necklace ever! So that night, we went out to Lebowskis (an amazing bar who specialises in white russians as you may have guessed) and had a few and seen where the night led us. It was great to see everyone, I absolutely love my good old amazing friends. It wasn't a particularly rowdy affair but it was good all the same.

Birthday muffin thanks to Michael :)

The biggest White Russian on the menu!
The Big Lebowski
A pint of white russian with sprinkles
and a brownie on top! Insane.

Today I've just been relaxing a fair bit, we even got a chinese for dinner which was such a treat. But tonight I just realised what exactly I have in store for myself this next week! It's going to be amazing.

Monday - Meal out with my folks, Tom, my brother and his girlfriend at a beautiful restaurant called the RoseLeaf in Leith, in which they sell cocktails in teapots! Winner.
Tuesday - Tom's birthday and another lovely meal out with his family at Sea Dogs in town. Then off to meet mates for a beer festival at a lovely bar called the Holyrood 9A
Wednesday till Sunday - PARIS! Including galleries, photo taking, cafe enjoying, disney fun, and yet another birthday meal!
Tuesday - My parents are coming up to Dundee to see me and then having a Dundee based night out with all my flatmates and uni friends! Amazing.

As you can see I'm totally milking this whole 21st birthday thing to the max!

I also realised how much I miss my pets when I'm at uni. Check out my take on Upside Down Dogs..

Happy Distract Yourself Day..

It may be valentines, I may be in a relationship, but I've not seen any sign of my boyfriend. Not even spoke to him on Facetime. Gutter. Hopefully get a good wee facetime date in the next hour or so when he's back from his open mic night. Also gutted he's only just got back into this whole playing at open mic nights when I head back to uni, I love watching him play guitar for people. He gets this lovely boost of confidence when he's played.

So today was a rather successful day nonetheless. We had our film hand in for one of our modules. I think I have briefly mentioned what the project was but if I haven't, the film was the first part of our semesters project. It was a research video focussing on how people use sketchbooks and what they think of digital sketching tools. This is then going to go from our research to our second half of our project which will involve designing a sketching app for an iPad. Should be fun. So check out my video here if your interested, if not, don't wast 9 mins of your life! (it's actually quite good if I do say so myself... which is unusual)

After uni, I headed round to my mate Clare's house to have a wee swatch at her clothes to steal some stuff for Paris to save me buying new stuff. It was great fun. I've been feeling a bit bleh about myself recently and this really cheered me up. So I look a wee holdall away full of clothes and a beautiful bag which I'm most definitely taking. As soon as I got home and had some dinner I got onto trying on. I was hoping I could get an opinion on some of them. I'll only post one of each outfit as I don't want to seem like I'm going to properly start outfit posts.. I'm not! Basically I'm trying to keep the baggage down, so I'm going for the whole one handbag, one belt, one pair or shoes and a 4 outfits, one each day..

So aye, what do you think? Most of the stuff are Clare's, which I really appreciate if you're reading this! Do you think I'll freeze if I wear this? I heard it's going to be absolutely freezing so I'm counting on hats, gloves and scarfs..

Happy Valentines Everyone! Especially all you LDRer's! (long distance relationship - ers)

I found it..

Okay, as soon as I posted that post on Friday I texted my mate Clare and demanded we went out for a drink. Two of my flatmates, Rod and Finlay, also came out. Turned out to be a brilliant night and I only spent a tenner and ended up pretty drunk! Was great fun. Impromptu nights out are always the best ones.

So that cheered me up a hell of a lot. I'm glad I did it. Even though I was pretty hungover yesterday. I don't even know why but we were up till 6am. It always seems to happen!

So valentines tomorrow.. No Tom in sight. I don't really mind too much though, I've never been one for Valentines. Even when I've been single. Cass had to buy her boyfriend a card today to go with the red velvet cupcakes she made for him (check them out below, they are amazing!). It was well funny, I've never had to buy a card for anyone, but I'm glad of this as they are all pretty 'boke-tastic'! I was shocked that we only found one that was reasonable in a bunch of shops. It was nice and plain and just had some heart shaped cookies on it. Thank god we're not hopeless romantics.

I was bored and it was yummy.. Thanks Cass x

So whos got valentines plans? Are you a hopeless romantic? Or are you lazy like me?

Money is still an issue for me at the moment. I have a big night out on Tuesday to look forward to but it's going to be expensive but I reckon I'll just have to be sensible. It's a themed night which will be funny, the theme is ABC (Anything But Clothes) but they've been a bit lenient and said anything that you wouldn't wear in public. So I decided to run down to Primark and get one of those Onesies that they sell knowing they're cheap. I just got back and tried it on and it looks pretty ridiculous. So might have to have a rethink..

Other than mucking about this weekend being hungover, I ventured out in the rain to go to the art gallery in town for something to do. I'd heard about an installation and wanted to get photos.

Missing - Fiona's Social Life. Reward if found!

Okay, so it's finally Friday night. After a week of hell I thought I'd be happy for tonight to arrive. I'm actually pretty disappointed in myself! I need to get out of my flat and have a drink. I don't remember the last time I went out for a drink. Money is the main culprit to be honest.

All I seem to have chat about is Java, filming and sketchbooks with the occasional mention of Paris. It's all I can afford at the moment to the extent I'm on a 'no buying food' week to use up what I have in my cupboard and nothing else except essentials.. (bread, milk, butter and teabags). I guess next week will be a repeat but maybe with the help of buying some veg and a soup bag from the fruit and veg shop.

Anyway, today I finally bought our Disneyland tickets so we could get the deal on going to two parks for around about the same price as one online. Winner. So 2 weeks today we will be in Disneyland Paris shaking hands with Goofy! (Photos hopefully to follow! ha!)

I can't wait.

Pretty picture spam.

Enjoy.

Yet another night..

So tonight is another one of those nights I totally intended on sleeping well early or at least sleeping when I started to feel tired but I had an actual reason to stay awake so not so much luck. Stuart, a guy in my class who I'm doing group work with, was over and we were stressing for hours on getting some footage we filmed synced up with the audio recording. It was unbelievably and unnecessarily complicated. Needless to say it was a total fail.

Today = Total write off!

I seem to be saying this a lot recently.

After sleeping in this morning till 5 mins before I had to leave for class, (thank god I'm still living on campus!) I jumped out of bed and instantly into my 'I've just slept in' outfit. This consists of my University hoody, I hate owning one but hey, it's ridiculously comfy, and ultra baggy jeans and a wooly hat. After my incredibly boring class I had 4 hours between classes and managed to actually have the longest shower ever and then a nice relaxing re-start to the day. This meant I could actually straighten my hair and choose an outfit I felt nice in. So after the rest of my uni day finished I came home, still feeling fresh and nice and took a few photos of what I was wearing. I'm not usually one to do this but I wouldn't usually have put this outfit together and I need to remember to wear it again! So here it is..

I also realised I haven't taken any photos of me
using my satchel except from my super excited
one I posted when it arrived.

I feel so weird doing outfit posts. Don't worry, I know I'm not extremely fashionable and I'm not claiming I'm pretty enough to do a fashion blog or to know anything about fashion. I just know I felt good today so thought I'd post it. It's not going to be a regular occurrence.

So last time I posted I mentioned I was making Tom dinner, I guess we could say it was our super early Valentines, although we never really do anything for Valentines anyway as the last 3 years I've been away over it or he's been working, or both. Typical. Anyway, I made the mussels I was speaking about. It was a mission but I've got to say, it was worth it. Not just for the taste but for Tom's compliments! I love getting compliments from Tom on my cooking as he's really passionate about his food and knows what he's doing, where as I'm just learning.

The pasta is hidden somewhere below it.
If anyone wants the recipe,
let me know!

I reckon this week is going to be filled with procrastination. Being only Tuesday, I've managed to do a hell of a lot regardless of my imminent deadlines.

I found this - it's cute :)

All of the next four images are part of the Paris vs New York - Tally of two cities blog

 They are all amazing.

The Paris count down continues - 14 days! (kind of cheating as it's only just past midnight..)

24 hours and counting..

This weekend couldn't have come any sooner! This time tomorrow, Tom will be arriving to see me for the first time in 2 weeks. I can't wait.

This was written on the wall of the art school but was
actually backwards and I instantly had to take a photo
to reverse it and send it to Tom.
(I know! BOKE!)

I'm not usually bothered by the whole long distance thing and not seeing each other for a max 2 weeks but being as exhausted as I have been this week, it's been really hard. So as a treat I've agreed it was my turn to cook dinner and I'm making a special feast. On the cards is Mussels ala Greg (my mate in my class Greg told me the recipe!) served with Linguine! Noms. I really hope it goes well.

I've never cooked fish really other than the old salmon in the oven thing. So this is a big thing for me. I've even phoned round different fishmongers to get the the mussels and need to phone at 8am to get them kept aside for me.

Sleeping seems to be a problem for a lot of people right now. I don't know exactly why. It must be related to the lacking in daylight and everyone starting back at uni/school/work after festivities. But to be honest, you'd think after a month being back to a routine, you'd be okay. But obviously not. I think I need to take some advice from Faye Cavania who wrote a brilliant post with a bunch of tips on how to get a good nights sleep. If you're struggling you should definitely check it out.

After my parents coming up on Tuesday I've been on a bit of a birthday present search but I've come across a few things but they aren't really things my mum and dad would buy for my 21st which is a shame! Why can't I concentrate enough on looking at jewellery? Here's some stuff I've had my eye on recently..

1 - Aztec Scarf, £55, Alice By Temperley
An absolutely beautiful scarf with an obscene price tag.
2 - Fish Eye lens for my Nikon D60
Not totally decided on one but this is one I've seen, need to look around.
Any of you guys used a fisheye lens for a DSLR?
3 - Zero Japan Teapot, comes in various sizes, from around £26, PekoeTea
If you've read my last post you'll know I'm back into my tea big time and this beauty can be used for loose tea aswel so it really appeals to me.
4 - Heart Print Playsuit, out of stock, Lipsy
I'm so disappointed this is out of stock because it's absolutely lovely. It seems I caught on to the playsuit craze a little too late as I only bought my first one the other day and totally love it and how good I feel in it. I'm on the prowl for a new one but all the nice ones are all out of stock! Any suggestions where I might find some nice ones?

This semester one of our briefs is to create an iPad sketching app, but before that we need to gather loads of research and create a video of people we know who sketch and what they like about sketching and how they sketch. Today my group filmed our first interview and we were interviewing an old school friend of mine from home, Cathy. I hadn't seen her properly for months so it was absolutely lovely. After spending an hour setting up to film 5 minutes worth of interview, we went for a hot chocolate and a catch up and ended up gossiping for about 2 hours. Got to love a good old gossip.

Null Pointer Exception

I hate the fact that I just named this post Null Pointer Exception but I can't get away from Java and my inability to code correctly.

so pretty.

So this weeks been pretty rubbish in a way but totally not rubbish in other ways.

Rubbish things -
I am completely exhausted.
Regardless of being exhausted, I'm not sleeping.
I miss Tom a ridiculous amount.
I can't code and can't learn quick enough.

Not so rubbish things -
My mum and dad came to visit yesterday.
I'm going to paris 3 weeks today.
I get to see my lovely boy on Saturday! (But only for a measly 24 hours. Boo)
I went to the Chinese Supermarket today.

When my parents came up yesterday I had just finished making an amazing batch of soup. It was curried parsnip and sweet potato, my mum tasted it ans was finally able to see evidence of me becoming a lot more domesticated since going back to uni. She was very impressed. It was great to hear that from her because she's quite the domestic goddess to be honest.

They came up to try and help me figure out what to get for my birthday and ended up dragging me round jewellery shops for ages. Still no luck but I came away with a bunch of jewellery catalogues and some small ideas.. I wish I had an actual thing I really wanted but I just can't think at the moment. Mum's totally dying to get me some jewellery though.

On Monday I came into class to be welcomed by Clare saying she had a surprise for me, turned out it was a tea infuser for the tea I had bought last week but was unable to drink without an infuser. It's amazing! It's a little house that says tea on the roof and you just fill it with your tea and then let it brew for 5 mins. In the time it took for it to brew I managed to catch some great photos of it.

i love it :)

I think it's probably quite sad how I get so excited about this but the definite highlight of my day was going to the chinese supermarket in town with some mates in my class. All I wanted was some guava juice (which is the best thing you will ever drink!) and maybe a packet of noodles. In the end I spent £9.50 on noodles, juice and chilli sauce. Nightmare! Oh well, It cheered me to the max.

nom!
